The municipality of Ses Salines has completed a series of enhancements to its municipal sports facilities, supported by the Consell de Mallorca. The aim of these improvements is to modernize equipment, enhance services, and provide more suitable spaces for sports practice and community use.
This initiative involved an investment of €213,919, allocated to various renovations and the creation of new spaces, including civil works and pre-installations for the football field, new facilities and supplies at the Jaume Bonet "Cometa" Sports Field, along with a children's playground. Additionally, new paddle tennis courts have been established at the Ses Ramones sports facilities in Colònia de Sant Jordi.
On the day of the completion, Ses Salines welcomed Pedro Bestard, the second vice president of the Consell de Mallorca and the councillor for Environment, Rural Affairs, and Sports, along with Toni Prats, the island director of Sports. They toured the facilities with Guillem Mas, the mayor of Ses Salines, and Miquel Rigo, the councillor for Sports, to witness the improvements firsthand.
Bestard emphasized that "these aids, totaling €12 million provided by the Consell de Mallorca from 2024 to 2026, represent a significant enhancement of sports facilities in Mallorca, promoting physical activity and leisure for the community, which also translates into public health benefits."
From the municipality's perspective, collaboration with the Consell is highlighted. Mayor Guillem Mas stated, "Sports have grown and will continue to grow, being an essential activity for our residents. For this reason, we have modernized and offer new spaces, such as the paddle tennis courts. Ses Salines is committed to modern, accessible facilities that meet the needs of athletes and local organizations."
In 2024, the Executive Council of the Consell de Mallorca approved a grant program for local municipalities to promote physical activity through funding for the creation of new sports facilities and improvements to existing ones. Municipalities have invested a total of €12 million in new constructions or partial renovations by 2026. This significant funding has allowed for the renovation of many public spaces across the 54 municipalities and the creation of much-needed new facilities, such as paddle tennis courts, sports pavilions, covered stands, and more efficient installations.
