Guadalajara, 8 October 2026 - Students from five schools across various municipalities in Guadalajara province are currently engaged in an initiative launched by the regional government aimed at raising awareness of artisan craftsmanship and the significance of the handmade pieces created by artisans.
This initiative coincides with the celebration of Farcama, an artisan fair taking place this week in Toledo. Artisan leatherworker Carmen del Olmo has visited classrooms in Hita, Espinosa, Carrascosa, Galápagos, Horche, and Trijueque, where artisan workshops have been conducted with the participation of students.
A total of 275 students from third to sixth grade of Primary Education have taken part in these workshops, where they worked with leather to create a coin purse. In addition to crafting their own pieces, this activity has allowed students to learn firsthand about the artisan profession from the artisan guiding them, helping them understand the artisanal process and appreciate the effort involved.
The Education, Culture, and Sports delegate, Ángel Fernández-Montes, shared this initiative with students at the San Roque School in Horche. He was accompanied by the school's director, Borja Toledano, and Ana Rebollo, head of the Tourism and Craft Service at the Delegation of Economy, Business, and Employment.
Fernández-Montes emphasized the importance of students understanding this artistic form of creation, which adds value to each piece, and learning to appreciate artisan products and their significance in the culture of the region. He referred to craftsmanship as an “important part of our traditions.”
