Public consultation begins for Reboria substation, key to Asturias' electrical ring

Borja Sánchez, the regional Minister of Science, Industry and Employment, emphasizes the strategic importance of the Reboria substation project for Asturias, despite the future of the network not yet being approved.

Public consultation begins for Reboria substation, key to Asturias' electrical ring

The new Reboria substation in Gijón and the associated electrical line connecting it to the Cardoso substation in Carreño have entered the public consultation phase following announcements published by the Government of Spain in the Official State Gazette (BOE).

These initiatives are part of infrastructure developments aimed at strengthening the electricity transport network in Asturias and addressing new energy needs linked to industrial growth.

During a visit to the Ence factory in Navia, Borja Sánchez highlighted that the opening of this consultation process is a result of coordinated efforts between the Government of Asturias and Red Eléctrica to promote this strategic infrastructure. He noted that this is the first substation and electrical line included in the future planning of the state transport network for the 2025-2030 period.

Both infrastructures are undergoing processing prior to the final approval of the planning document, which will facilitate administrative and environmental procedures, thereby expediting the complex processing of the electrical ring before construction begins.

The project includes the establishment of the Reboria substation, which will operate at 400 kilovolts (kV) in Gijón, with an investment exceeding €7.1 million. Additionally, a 10.8-kilometer overhead electrical transport line with a double circuit between Cardoso and Reboria is planned, requiring an investment of €8.38 million. This line will traverse the municipalities of Carreño, Corvera, and Gijón.

The Cardoso substation, which is part of the current energy planning and will serve as the starting point for the electrical ring in central Asturias, is currently under construction.

According to the documentation submitted for public consultation, both infrastructures will enhance the safety and quality of electricity supply in central Asturias, increase energy transport capacity, and facilitate the development of new industrial and energy projects.
