Piélagos to open registration for free childcare program from October 8 to 18 during Halloween break 2026

On October 6, 2026, the Piélagos Town Hall announced that registration for a free childcare program will be open from October 8 to 18. This initiative aims to support working parents during the Halloween school break in 2026.

Carmen Bedoya, the Councillor for Culture, Education, Equality, Social Welfare, and Family, highlighted that the program is co-financed by the Plan Corresponsables from the Spanish government's Equality Ministry and the Government of Cantabria. The program will be held in three locations: the Las Dunas school in Liencres, the El Mimbral school in Renedo, and the CEIP Eutiquio Ramos school in Parbayón.

The childcare services will cater to children aged 4 to 14 years (born between 2012 and 2022) and will take place from November 2 to 6, operating from 9:30 AM to 2:00 PM. Additionally, starting from the 2023-2024 school year, an early drop-off service will be available from 7:30 AM to accommodate parents whose workday begins at 8:00 AM.

Bedoya noted that if the number of applications exceeds the available spots, families with lower incomes will be given priority, as outlined in the Plan Corresponsables.

Online Registration

As in previous years, parents must register for the childcare program through the town hall's activity portal. During registration, applicants must indicate if they require support for special educational needs or disabilities, choose the early drop-off option, and disclose any allergies or intolerances.

Required Documentation

Bedoya emphasized that, in accordance with the Plan Corresponsables, all participants must submit their income tax declaration from the previous year. Working parents are required to provide documentation proving their need for childcare, such as recent contracts, payment receipts for self-employed contributions, or recent pay slips, regardless of whether they use the early drop-off service.

It is crucial that this documentation is submitted before the registration deadline, as late submissions will not be accepted. To expedite the processing of applications, parents are encouraged to upload the necessary documents through the town hall's activity portal during registration.
