More than a thousand children and young people participated in sports activities organized by the Piélagos Town Council during the summer months of July and August. This initiative aimed to provide engaging and healthy leisure options during the school holidays.
The Councilor for Sports and Youth, Borja López Alonso, noted that the municipality offered eight different courses, including Paddle Surf, Canoeing, Surfing, Tennis, Bodyboarding, Climbing, Paddle, and Swimming. Additionally, five sports camps were held for Football, Equestrian, Basketball, Handball, and Karate, all conducted by qualified instructors.
“Piélagos lives sports; this is not just a slogan,” López Alonso stated, emphasizing the town's commitment to promoting regular physical activity, even during the summer months. He explained that alongside the six municipal sports schools operating from March to August, the council aims to provide a wide range of summer activities for the younger residents.
López Alonso highlighted that both the biweekly courses and the sports camps not only offer healthy leisure options but also provide opportunities for children and young people to try out different sports that they may not usually practice. “Many of the summer activities help spark participants' interest in other sports while also serving as an effective tool for attracting future students to the municipal sports schools in Piélagos,” he added.
