Under the slogan “Local commerce also walks the runway,” the Mérida Fashion Show aims to showcase more than 20 local businesses specialising in women's, men's, and children's fashion, footwear, accessories, jewellery, and personal image, among other sectors related to fashion. The initiative seeks to promote and provide visibility to local commerce.

Laura Iglesias, the city’s delegate for Commerce and Entrepreneurship, emphasised the municipal government's “strong commitment” to local businesses, highlighting efforts to enhance the visibility of shops, invigorate neighbourhoods, and bring commercial offerings closer to the public.

The second edition of the Mérida Fashion Show will take place on Saturday, 17 October, at the Arco de Trajano from 11:00 to 13:00. Iglesias noted the growth of this initiative, which will feature more participants than previous editions.

Among the participating establishments are shops offering women's, men's, and children's fashion, footwear, accessories, jewellery, and personal image services, providing them with an opportunity to showcase their products and connect with the community.

The delegate reiterated the city council's commitment to local commerce, stating, “We know that local commerce is essential for job creation and revitalising our neighbourhoods.” She also highlighted the municipal support for the city's commercial fabric through initiatives like this fashion show, which “provides visibility and allows them to reach more people.”

The Mérida Fashion Show exemplifies this commitment by contributing to the revitalisation of the city’s streets and bringing local commerce closer to the citizens of Mérida. Iglesias stressed the importance of supporting the local commercial landscape, asserting that “supporting local commerce is much more than encouraging purchases in our shops; it is about creating opportunities and backing the work of our merchants.”

She concluded by stating that through this fashion show, “we want the merchants to be the true protagonists, showcasing their products in a prominent setting like the Arco de Trajano, allowing the public to discover everything they have to offer.”

Chari Gallego, president of the Emerita Augusta Merchants Association, also participated in the presentation of this second edition, expressing her “excitement” for the initiative and highlighting that such proposals are “a way to introduce many establishments that people may not yet know.”

This initiative aims to promote, highlight, and value the talent, creativity, and quality of local commerce while fostering an open, inclusive, and accessible fashion environment, promoting diversity, sustainability, and proximity commerce as key elements for the economic and social development of the city.
