Madrid Planetarium Launches Conference Series on 40 Years of Astronomy Advances

On October 1, 2026, the Madrid Planetarium officially inaugurated its autumn conference series titled ‘Singularities.’ This event marks the 40th anniversary of the municipal center and will explore significant advancements in science and astronomy over the past four decades.

The series will consist of six sessions held between today and November 5, featuring speakers from NASA, the European Space Agency, the National Astronomical Observatory, the Center for Astrobiology, CERN, and the Planetarium itself. The conferences are scheduled for October 1, 8, 15, 22, and 29, as well as November 5, all starting at 6:00 PM.

Attendance is free but requires prior reservation through the Planetarium's website, starting from the date of each event. All sessions will also be streamed live and made available for later viewing on the Planetarium's YouTube channel.

The programming will cover major advancements and challenges in astronomy and space exploration over the last forty years, including the search for exoplanets, the detection of gravitational waves, new lunar exploration missions, and studies on the origin and fate of the universe.

Notable speakers include Telmo Fernández, director of the Madrid Planetarium; Carlos García-Galán, head of NASA's Lunar Base program; Bruno Altieri, a scientist involved in the European Space Agency's Euclid mission; astrophysicist José A. Caballero; Rafael Bachiller, director of the National Astronomical Observatory; and CERN researcher Álvaro de Rújula, who will conclude the series with a talk on the workings of artificial intelligence.
