The Madrid City Council has announced a significant increase in podiatry services for seniors, with plans to boost the number of consultations by over 70% by 2030. The new management contract, approved by the Governing Board, involves an investment of €1.3 million.
Service Expansion
The number of podiatry consultations is set to rise from 100,600 in 2025 to 175,000 by 2030. This service is aimed at members of municipal senior centers who hold the 'madridmayor' card, as well as authorized users of day centers and municipal residences.
Objectives and Benefits
The primary goal of the podiatry service is to evaluate, care for, and maintain foot health, thereby preventing issues that could affect mobility or autonomy. In 2025, the service attended to over 44,000 users, who rated their satisfaction with the service at an impressive 8.85 out of 10.
Service Details
The podiatry service includes individual consultations focused on basic and preventive treatments, such as relieving discomfort while walking and preventing more serious issues like ingrown toenails and infections. Group sessions will also be held to promote foot health and prevent related conditions.
Investment in Senior Care
This initiative is part of a broader commitment by the Madrid City Council, which is investing €458 million this year in resources to promote active and healthy aging for seniors. The council prioritizes enabling older adults to remain in their homes as long as possible, ensuring quality of life and autonomy.
Additional Resources
In addition to podiatry services, the council provides various support programs, including home assistance, meal delivery, and advanced teleassistance solutions. The city operates 93 senior centers and 65 day centers dedicated to the socio-healthcare needs of individuals over 60 years old.
The new podiatry contract will take effect on January 1, 2027, and will remain in force until December 2030, with the option for a 12-month extension.
