Madrid City Council to Enhance Ocaña Roundabout with Our Lady of Light

On October 8, 2026, the Madrid City Council approved during the Governing Board meeting the delegation of responsibilities to the Latina district for the design and execution of a beautification project for the central island of the roundabout located at the intersection of Ocaña and Nuestra Señora de la Luz streets.

This initiative responds to repeated requests from local residents and aligns with an agreement approved by the Full Council of the Latina Municipal District aimed at improving this urban space. Furthermore, it is part of broader efforts to enhance public roads and inter-block spaces in the Aluche neighborhood, as outlined in the Public Space Recovery Strategy of the SURES Plan, which seeks to address territorial imbalances in the southern and eastern districts of Madrid.

The roundabout serves as a conventional traffic intersection, featuring a circular central island with a diameter of 20 meters that currently lacks aesthetic appeal, contributing to an image of neglect and deterioration. Given that landscaping or planting tree species that could obstruct traffic visibility is not advisable, the Latina district proposes an aesthetic improvement by consolidating a minimally maintained surface that will support an ornamental sign related to the Aluche neighborhood.

This project aims to enhance the urban image of one of the access points to the neighborhood, making it more visible to those entering from the Carabanchel district. Funding for this initiative will be sourced from a budget modification of the current 2026 ordinary budget, supplemented by territorial rebalancing funds from the SURES plan for the 2027 fiscal year if necessary.
