About madama butterfly

'Madama Butterfly' is a three-act opera composed by the renowned Italian composer Giacomo Puccini, with a libretto by Giuseppe Giacosa and Luigi Illica, based on works by Luther Long and David Belasco. The opera is set in Nagasaki, Japan, in the early 20th century.

Synopsis

The story follows Madama Butterfly, who marries an American naval officer named Pinkerton. After marrying a foreigner, she is disowned by her family. While she waits for a lifelong love, her husband views their marriage as a fleeting adventure and eventually returns to the United States to start a new life. Meanwhile, Madama Butterfly, who is pregnant, remains in Japan. When Pinkerton returns with his new wife to meet their child and take him to America, Madama Butterfly, feeling abandoned, chooses to commit harakiri, believing it is better to die with honour than to live in dishonour.

Tickets are available for purchase at teatroestepona.com and at the auditorium box office two hours before the performance begins.
