On October 5, 2026, Lugo's mayor, Elena Candia, presided over the municipal delegation that departed from the City Hall, accompanied by the Philharmonic Band, during a festive day celebrating the city's patron saint, San Froilán.
The municipal corporation, led by Mayor Candia, fulfilled the traditional offering to San Froilán at the Cathedral of Lugo, a key event in the city's celebrations on this date. The delegation, joined by other authorities, made its way to the Cathedral where a religious ceremony was conducted by the Bishop of the Diocese of Lugo, Alfonso Carrasco Rouco.
During the ceremony, the traditional offering was presented by Adriana López and Candela García, two seven-year-old friends. The Philharmonic Band, directed by Martínez Sabio, accompanied the delegation to the Cathedral and later performed a concert in Plaza de Santa María dedicated to Lugo's musicians. The concert included tributes to notable figures such as Xoán Montes and Manuel López Varela, celebrating the musical heritage of the city.
Music and tradition in the streets
The festive atmosphere extended throughout the city's streets, featuring various parades, Giant and Bighead figures, and musical performances at different locations in Lugo, bringing the spirit of San Froilán to local neighborhoods.
Additionally, there were activities for children as part of the San Froilán Miúdo program. Young attendees enjoyed a performance by Pica Pica at Horta do Seminario and a theatrical show by Diminuts, which took place in the streets. These activities are part of a specific program for children and families, which also includes shows, games, workshops, magic, and the Festivaliño Xacobeo, featuring the world's smallest cinema.
