The Bretón Theatre in Logroño is set to feature an exciting blend of contemporary dance and theatre this weekend. On Thursday, 15 October, at 20:00, the renowned TAO Dance Theater from China will present their performances ‘13 and 14’ from the Numerical Series. This marks the first time the prestigious company, known for its innovative movement techniques, has performed at a major international venue in Spain.
TAO Dance Theater has graced stages worldwide, including the Lincoln Center Art Festival in New York, Sadler’s Wells in London, and the Sydney Opera House. The company’s choreographer, Tao Ye, explains that the titles ‘13’ and ‘14’ phonetically express a desire for longevity in Chinese culture. The first piece explores the journey and struggle of their unique Circular Movement System, while the second is a vibrant celebration of dance, showcasing mastery over body language and pushing the boundaries of dance syntax.
Tickets for the performance range from €10 to €25, with an estimated duration of approximately 80 minutes.
On Saturday, 17 October, at 20:00, María Jáimez will take to the stage with her play ‘Vendrán los alienígenas y tendrán tus ojos’. This narrative follows the story of a woman and an alien, celebrating love and the universal need to love and be loved. The performance is a polyphonic monologue that pays homage to the “space rock” of David Bowie, featuring live music, including covers of songs by Bambino and Massiel, alongside choreography that blends contemporary dance with pop elements and digital animations.
This engaging production lasts about 90 minutes, with ticket prices ranging from €8 to €18. The combination of striking visuals and lighting has already captivated both audiences and critics alike.
