Galicia focuses on innovation to attract businesses and talent

María Jesús Lorenzana, the conselleira de Economía e Industria (regional minister for Economy and Industry), has highlighted the Xunta's commitment to innovation as a means to develop an attractive industrial ecosystem in Galicia. This initiative aims to attract new businesses and talent to the region.

During a visit to Hifas da Terra, a biotechnology company in Pontevedra that focuses on health and wellness projects using mushrooms, Lorenzana stressed the importance of fostering technological innovation. She stated that such support enables companies to "increase their market opportunities."

"By providing them with backing, we help modernise their processes to adapt to increasingly dynamic and competitive markets," she added.

In this context, Lorenzana noted that the Galician government recently resolved funding applications for the IA360, Igape Innova, and Ticket Innova programmes in August. These initiatives will provide nearly €15 million in direct innovation grants to over 500 companies in Galicia.

Specifically, the Ticket Innova programme awarded 66 grants totalling €1 million, while the Igape Innova line allocated almost €4 million to benefit 40 projects. Additionally, the IA360 supported 97 projects with a public investment of €10 million. "These three lines create a comprehensive support offer for Galician companies' innovation," she emphasised.

These funding initiatives are part of the Galician Innovation Strategy 2026-2028, which aims to strengthen innovation as a key pillar of the region's industrial policy to boost productivity, competitiveness, and economic growth.

Finally, Lorenzana congratulated the team at Hifas da Terra, which has nearly 30 years of history and operates in over 25 countries, including subsidiaries in France, Germany, Italy, and the United Kingdom.
