The Deputy Mayor of Albacete, Francisco Navarro, attended the inauguration of the exhibition 'La niña sentada', showcasing sculptures by the renowned local artist José Luis Sánchez. This exhibition has been organized to celebrate the centenary of Sánchez's birth.
Navarro encouraged residents of Albacete to visit the exhibition, highlighting the importance of Sánchez's work, which is recognized both nationally and internationally. He noted that the city is home to some of Sánchez's pieces, including the 'Pórtico de La Mancha', located at a roundabout near the university campus.
During the event, Navarro announced that the city council is in the process of restoring one of Sánchez's sculptures that had been abandoned and deteriorating in a warehouse. He stated, “In agreement with the sculptor's family, we have commissioned the restoration of this artistic work, which is part of the city's heritage, to a specialized company. Our goal is to reintegrate it into the urban landscape for the enjoyment of all Albacete residents and visitors.”
Navarro emphasized that the conservation, recovery, and enhancement of Albacete's artistic heritage will remain a priority for the municipal government. He also had the opportunity to share thoughts and future projects with Paloma Sánchez Canivet, the artist's daughter and executor, during the exhibition's inauguration.
