The Esports al Barri programme is set to take place in the Benimàmet neighbourhood on 17 October, featuring a day of sports activities open to all residents. The event will run from 11:00 to 14:00 at the Instalación Deportiva Elemental (IDE) located in the Linear Park of Benimàmet, near Arquitecto Gilabert street. This initiative aims to introduce various sports disciplines to local residents of all ages.
Rocío Gil, the city’s Councillor for Sports, stated, “This weekend, Esports al Barri returns to Benimàmet for a family-friendly sports day.” She encouraged the community to participate and explore the range of sports available in the city.
The event will feature opportunities to try sports such as hockey, triathlon, volleyball, chess, paddle, pilota valenciana (a traditional Valencian ball game), judo, karate, wrestling, and handball, among others. Participation from local sports federations and clubs will allow attendees to engage with different sports in a practical and participative manner.
Gil also highlighted that, thanks to collaboration with El Corte Inglés, there will be children's activities including face painting and balloon modelling. While the programme is particularly aimed at children, it is designed as a family event, welcoming the entire neighbourhood and fostering community through sports.
“Esports al Barri is an initiative organised by the Municipal Sports Foundation that transforms local sports venues into meeting points for discovering new sports and enjoying a morning of outdoor physical activity,” Gil summarised. Following its stop in Benimàmet, the programme will continue to visit various neighbourhoods across the city until December 2026, aiming to promote sports participation and reinforce the role of sports as a tool for engagement, community building, and healthy living habits,” the councillor added.
