Castilla-La Mancha commemorates 50 years of democratic transition with extensive program of events

Albacete, October 5, 2026 – Pedro Antonio Ruiz Santos, the representative of the Junta de Comunidades de Castilla-La Mancha in Albacete, outlined the main proposals for the province under the program '50 years together'. This initiative aims to bring the memory of the democratic transition closer to citizens, recognize the contributions of those who helped build democracy, and pass on this legacy to new generations.

The program includes a mix of exhibitions, journalism, literature, urban art, recognitions, and music, with activities scheduled in both Albacete city and various municipalities across the province from October to March.

Key Events and Exhibitions

One of the highlights will be the central exhibition titled '50 years together. The Transition in Castilla-La Mancha: Building a New Reality and Identity (1976-1983)', which will be held at the Museum of Albacete from November 2 to December 6. This exhibition will feature three rooms, including a gamification area and four interactive installations that utilize holograms and games to create an immersive experience.

An itinerant version of the exhibition, 'The Transition in Images: Building a New Reality in Castilla-La Mancha', will also tour various towns in the province, including Villarrobledo, Almansa, and Hellín, during November and December.

Additional initiatives include a focus on journalism from the era, such as 'Cambio16', which pays tribute to a generation of journalists who helped narrate and shape democracy, with events planned in Casas Ibáñez. The program will also highlight 'Women and the Transition in Castilla-La Mancha', showcasing the stories of early female mayors, councilors, and feminist leaders who broke barriers in a male-dominated world.

Literature and Music

Literature will also play a significant role, featuring 'Authors of the Spanish Transition', which combines a reading club with a series of lectures. Participation is confirmed from reading clubs in Casas de Juan Núñez and Hellín.

Music will be another focal point, with a free concert series titled 'The Music that Changed a Country', designed to revive the spirit of the social gatherings during the Transition years. This series will kick off on October 10 in La Roda, featuring two orchestras, and will continue to Almansa on October 23.

Additionally, 'Music for a Transition' will promote a circuit of 76 performances by music bands from Castilla-La Mancha, including 15 from Albacete, blending music with narratives and archival footage from the era.

Community Participation and Legacy

The program will also include initiatives for citizen participation aimed at collecting memories, testimonies, and images from those who lived through the Transition, to share with younger generations. Josefina Navarrete, Vice President of the Cortes and Mayor of Barrax, emphasized the importance of these efforts, stating that participation is already open for projects such as 'The Transition in Vertical: Young People Listening' and 'The Memory of Our People'.
