The mayor of Cambrils, Oliver Klein, recently honoured local dancer Carlota Vigo and her fellow performers for their outstanding achievement at the Dance World Cup. The group secured a gold medal in the junior category for their flamenco-style choreography titled “Silencio” during the competition held in Dublin last June.
The recognition ceremony included speeches from the mayor and the director of the África Aguilar Dance School, as well as the presentation of merit diplomas and a group photo. The event was attended by choreographer Yoel Vargas and the eight dancers who participated in the award-winning performance.
Carlota Vigo, who has been a student at the África Aguilar Dance School since she was eight, was part of a team that excelled in the competition, which featured over 25 high-level dance schools. Other notable achievements included Maria Rubio winning gold in the junior individual category, Gala Abellán taking silver, and Dídac Calvera earning bronze. Additionally, at the Spanish championship, which served as a qualifier for the world event, Dídac Calvera was crowned champion and Gala Abellán was the runner-up.
During the reception, Mayor Klein congratulated the dancers not only for their medals but also for the dedication, hard work, and passion that led to their success. He emphasised the importance of fostering values in young people, stating, “You have shown that while individual talent is important, when shared and directed towards a common goal, it can achieve much greater heights.”
The Dance World Cup 2026 has become a significant event in the dance community, attracting participants from 60 countries and featuring over 11,500 dancers, with a judging panel that included renowned choreographer Taylor Swift. Notably, the África Aguilar Dance School was the only institution in the Spanish delegation to win gold medals in the international folklore category.
