The City Council of Cáceres is set to bring forward a proposal aimed at dedicating a public space, such as a street, square, or park, to honor all teachers. This initiative is intended to recognize the vital role educators play in shaping future generations.
The proposal follows a meeting between Jorge Suárez, the Councillor for Culture, and Saturnino Acosta, the director of the ANPE Cáceres union, who formally requested that the city acknowledge the contributions of teachers. ANPE emphasized the importance of dedicating a public space to educators as a tribute to their hard work, responsibility, and dedication, particularly highlighted during recent school years.
Jorge Suárez remarked, “Teachers perform a fundamental role in our society and for the future of our youth. We believe it is right for Cáceres to show recognition to those who work daily in classrooms to educate new generations.”
Suárez further stated that the Culture and Education department has positively received ANPE's proposal and will present it to the Culture Commission for endorsement by other municipal political groups, initiating the necessary procedures.
The initiative aims to provide a general acknowledgment to the teaching profession as a whole, rather than focusing on an individual, highlighting the social importance of educators. In their request, ANPE noted the commitment and dedication of teachers, arguing that dedicating a public space would be a fitting recognition of their commitment to education.
Once the proposal is discussed in the Culture Commission later this month and, if approved, the specific location to be dedicated to teachers will be determined according to established municipal procedures.
