Andalucía leads international tourist spending growth among Spain's top destinations

In August, foreign visitors to Andalucía spent €2.797 billion, an increase of 18.8% compared to the same month last year. This growth is more than double the national average of 9.2%, according to provisional data from Egatur, part of the National Institute of Statistics (INE).

Manuel Gavira, the second vice president and Minister of Tourism, Justice, Deregulation, and Local Administration, emphasized that Andalucía's tourism sector continues to show strength and ambition. "Our goal is for tourism success to translate into more opportunities for the people of Andalucía. We want to ensure that this success is reflected in employment, businesses, and the lives of our towns and cities," Gavira stated.

In August, Andalucía accounted for 15.7% of the total international tourist spending in Spain. From January to August, foreign visitors spent a total of €15.272 billion in the region, an increase of 11.5% compared to the same period last year, while the national increase was 8%.

Gavira highlighted that these results are a testament to the hard work of professionals and businesses in the sector, which make Andalucía a competitive and attractive destination. He also emphasized the need to enhance the value generated by tourism and to extend its benefits throughout the region. "We cannot be complacent. We must leverage this strength to advance tourism that generates activity year-round, opens opportunities inland, and contributes to the well-being of residents," he added.

Strong growth from European markets

In August, British tourists contributed €512.6 million, a 13% increase. Notably, spending from Nordic countries surged to €252.6 million, a remarkable 56.9% increase. The French market added €249 million, up 24.7%, while the German market contributed €231 million, marking a 37.4% increase.

This increase in spending coincided with a rise in international arrivals. According to provisional data from Frontur, Andalucía welcomed 2,065,044 foreign tourists in August, a 21.3% increase compared to the previous year, again surpassing the national growth rate of 9.2%. The region captured 16.8% of total arrivals, ranking as the third most popular destination in Spain, following the Balearic Islands and Catalonia.

From January to August, Andalucía received 11.08 million international tourists, a 10.4% increase, compared to the national rise of 5.4%. By market, the UK provided 381,369 tourists in August, a 13.8% increase, followed by Portugal with 243,496 visitors (up 20.5%) and France with 237,733 tourists (up 20.7%). Increases were also noted from Germany (up 19.1%) and Nordic countries (up 43.5%).
