Andalucía aims to lead the future of tourism innovation

On October 7, 2026, Manuel Gavira, the second vice president and minister of Tourism, Justice, Deregulation, and Local Administration, emphasized Andalucía's dedication to being at the forefront of a new understanding of tourism. Speaking at the second day of the Tourism Innovation Summit (TIS2026) held in Seville, Gavira participated in the Forum of Innovative Tourist Regions of Spain and argued that the tourism sector is constantly evolving.

Gavira stated, "Regions must decide whether to merely observe these changes or to take the lead in shaping them." He noted that events like TIS2026 provide opportunities to learn from others facing similar challenges, particularly in managing busy tourist seasons and supporting municipal investments to enhance their tourism offerings.

He acknowledged that while each destination requires tailored solutions, there are collaborative opportunities, especially among nearby regions. By improving connectivity, facilitating travel for visitors, and maintaining year-round activity, these regions can expand their tourism potential.

Additionally, Gavira highlighted the importance of supporting local governments, which need guidance to transform opportunities into actionable projects. He also stressed the need to respond to local businesses to provide legal certainty and security for their demands.

The second day of TIS2026 featured discussions on the future of tourism in Spain, with contributions from key figures such as Manuel Lara, the Secretary General of Tourism, Jaume Bauzá, the Minister of Tourism, Culture, and Sports of the Balearic Islands, and Marta Araceli Álvarez, the Secretary General of Culture, Tourism, and Sports.

The forum addressed critical aspects of regional tourism strategies, including territorial development through planning, enhancing tourist satisfaction by adapting products and services to new demands, and prioritizing the well-being of residents. Challenges such as distributing tourist flows to ensure the sector's benefits reach all areas and analyzing data for real-time sector evolution were also discussed.

TIS2026 is expected to attract around 8,000 professionals and over 200 exhibitors, showcasing solutions to the industry's main challenges, from artificial intelligence systems and data analysis strategies to automation tools, cybersecurity, and sustainable innovation. The summit features presentations and debates from approximately 400 international experts, introducing professionals to new technologies that enhance traveler experiences and optimize tourism business management.
