05/10/2026 The municipalities of Alicante and Elche have announced the postponement of the second edition of the International Marathon, originally scheduled for November 29, due to its coinciding with the early celebration of general elections on the same day.
Both city councils, along with the organizing body, the Club Atlético Montemar, are currently working to find a new date for the event, which will be communicated shortly.
The inaugural edition of the Elche-Alicante International Marathon took place on November 30 of last year, achieving notable success with 3,500 participants and a large audience along the 42-kilometer route, which started at the Palacio de Altamira in Elche and concluded at Muelle 12 in the Port of Alicante.
For the postponed second edition, the organization has modified and improved the course to make it one of the fastest in Spain's marathon circuit. The race will again start near the Palacio de Altamira on Calle Albéniz. The first 20 kilometers will run through the urban area of Elche, with a new feature being the route through the El Palmeral area. The subsequent 18 kilometers will be interurban, flat, and slightly downhill, leading runners from a roundabout at the exit of Elche to Casa Mediterráneo in Alicante. The final four kilometers will take participants to Plaza del Puerto, passing through the Explanada de España, the Plaza del Mar, Avenida de Juan Bautista Lafora, and along the Postiguet beach to reach the finish line at Plaza del Puerto. Notably, the last eight kilometers through the urban area of Alicante have been removed from the route due to the various inclines that athletes faced in those segments last year.
