The mayor of Albacete, Manuel Serrano, has highlighted the importance of collaboration between the city council and the local commercial sector to invigorate the local economy and encourage shopping. This announcement coincided with the launch of a new initiative called ‘Bonos Comercio’ aimed at promoting local businesses.
During a visit to a participating establishment, Serrano emphasized that the initiative represents a response to the needs of the sector, which he described as a vital part of Albacete's identity and economic landscape. He stated, “Today is an important day for the city of Albacete,” reflecting on the collaboration with the Federation of Commerce of Albacete (FECOM) and Albacete Centro.
The city council has allocated €163,000 for the development of this promotional campaign, which has already seen over 100 businesses sign up and more than 1,000 vouchers purchased within the first half hour of the launch. Residents of Albacete can purchase up to five vouchers worth €20 each through the website “Yo compro en Albacete,” with the city council subsidizing €10 of each voucher, allowing beneficiaries to receive a total discount of up to €50.
Serrano pointed out that the council plans to invest nearly €1.5 million to promote local shopping, which includes funding for furniture and equipment purchases for homes, as well as €300,000 for initiatives supporting childbirth and adoption. He noted that these measures aim to assist families in light of rising living costs while simultaneously supporting the local economy.
The mayor encouraged more merchants to join the initiative, which allows vouchers to be combined with existing discounts and promotions offered by stores, thereby maximizing savings for consumers and enhancing the campaign's impact.
In conclusion, Serrano reiterated that the ultimate goal is to contribute to a better Albacete by reinforcing a sector that is essential to the city’s identity and economic vitality. He affirmed the city council's commitment to continue developing measures that support local commerce, generate economic activity, and facilitate everyday purchases for Albacete families.
